This small street scene painting is a view from my studio in Massachusetts in February, as spring is about to appear. The painting is on canvas, stretched onto 3/4″ deep stretcher bars, signed and framed in a wood floater frame painted a soft gray to complement the painting.
This soft landscape painting on panel shows a soft winter day on the Cambridge Reservoir, Massachusetts on a cloudy day. Even though even the air was grey, there was such amazingly rich color in the blue hills of the distance. It was such a gray day even the dull orange of the dead oak leaves seemed brilliant in contrast.
But days such as these challenge me in my painting — how soft and gray can I make a painting so that it still evokes space? In response, I limited my palette while painting so that I made this using only Burnt Umber, Gold Ochre, Indian Red, Ultramarine Blue and White.
This painting is on 1/4″ panel and professionally framed in a soft, matte silver metal frame, ready to hang on the wall.
